Doncaster school pupils bring festive cheer to city nursery

Pupils and staff from a Doncaster secondary school brought a touch of festive cheer to a city nursery.

Hungerhill School’s newly launched house system is already making a positive mark on the community, thanks to four inspirational students who volunteered their time to bring festive joy to Granby Doncaster Nursery and Pre-School.

Last week, the students – accompanied by House Leader Paul Cattell and supported by Miss Exley – travelled to the nursery in Cantley as part of the school’s commitment to service, teamwork, and community engagement.

Eager to embrace the spirit of giving, the group spent the day reading Christmas stories, singing well-loved festive songs, and sharing magical moments with the youngest members of the Doncaster community.

Children gathered excitedly as the Hungerhill visitors brought well-known Christmas tales to life, filling the nursery with laughter and anticipation.

The singing that followed had both pupils and nursery staff joining in, creating a warm and cheerful atmosphere that perfectly captured the season.

Staff at Granby Nursery praised the students for their maturity, kindness, and enthusiasm, noting how quickly they built rapport with the children. “They brought so much joy into the room,” said one member of staff.

“It was wonderful to see the older students inspiring our little ones and making their day so special.”

This event marks one of the first major community initiatives under Hungerhill’s brand new House System – an approach designed to strengthen belonging, develop leadership, and encourage the school’s ethos of “Meliora” (“Positivity”) beyond the classroom walls.

Speaking after the visit, Mr. Cattell expressed pride in the students’ eagerness to give back: “Our young people were extremely excited to take part. They wanted to make a difference and sprinkle a little ‘Meliora Magic’ across Doncaster—and they absolutely achieved that.”

As Christmas approaches, Hungerhill continues to champion the values of compassion, teamwork, and community spirit. With students like these leading the way, the future looks bright, festive, and full of possibilities.
